I just read something in a fiction book that made me stop, think and then come here to write

The way it was phrased was, "Well, if you're gonna take my inventory, I'll be expecting you to do my amends as well." said calmly and matter of factly. Blew me away. First I laughed. Damn straight! What a come back for the many people in my life so willing to take my inventory!!

But then, I realized, I do that to others. And if that isn't a very, very important lesson for me, right there, I don't know what is. I think it shall become a mirror note.

I don't like clutter on my mirror so one of the other important missives will have to come down, but so be it. It's time I stopped taking anyone's inventory but my own. This is one of my character flaws and I was offered a chance to fix it, by Stephen King, of all people. Thank you, Mr. King.

I got tired of his books a few years ago, but this one jumped out at me and I never ignore that strange gift. I can see a book on a shelf and know it has something in it I need. Usually it's self help books but this one did the exact same thing. I knew I needed to read it. It's a good read but this was clearly why I needed to read it.

5. LOL. i remember being at a sober dance with around 90 days sober

when someone said to the effect that 'those people are taking your inventory' and my response was 'fine, as long as they'll do my amends too" so he wasn't the first to think of it.

on the note of taking others inventory, i do it. i get to make choices today about who i allow in my life and who isn't welcome in my inner circle. if that's taking their inventory, so be it. i can live with that.
