The morning meeting. I'm rolling home

It has been a church (basement )room...
First off thank you..
But where else have you had a meeting?

1. We do sunset boat cruise meetings in Newburyport, MA

Every Tues and Thurs during the summer from Plum Island. Speaker over the PA. Coffee still bad

3. Why do we do bad coffee?

My sponsor told me to make coffee for months
first time.

2. Meetings

I have had meetings in many many places, actually the most common site is usually a small storefront that has been rented by a group. Other places include a hospital wing that was dedicated to a rehab unit, a restaurant in Modesto Ca. my own home too...The AA definition of an AA meeting is "whenever 2 or more AA members get together to discuss their addictions..Hope it was a good meeting and you continue to attend...

4. I've been to 12-step meetings in jails and rehabs.

I much prefer churches!

I have never been to a meeting at a church where "the church" had any influence or input in the meeting other than a general acknowledgement of a "higher power" aiding in recovery - and some members of the church might just be there anonymously, if you know what I mean.

I have heard people talk about religion in general terms - "whatever works" - and I have heard about "street lights" and "treasured pets" and even "Big Books" - all kinds of things people choose to call their "higher power."

"God" always remains your personal concept.

"Church" is a place which opens its doors to us, but knows this is ours, not theirs. That is "the deal" going in.

Anyone who thinks it is a "deal-breaker" needs to stick around and find out it isn't - and eliminate just one more excuse.

5. I can't thank AA and NA enough

My son, 2 years in recovery, is now an NA sponsor as well as having one himself. He is not at all religious (despite his Lutheran upbringing) but he has no problem with acknowledging a higher power.

6. Fellowship Halls

Alano Clubs, Hospitals, Libraries, Senior Centers.............

7. I have been to meetings in church basements - though we also have them in Sunday school rooms

But my two home groups - one is in a halfway house and the other is at the town hall. We also have well attended meetings at the local hospital, at the Salvation Army, and when we couldn't meet at our regular space, we've had them in back rooms of local restaurants. They have the best coffee.

9. Former Playboy Club
10. restaurants
11. libraries.
12. saw a meeting on TV once, that's what got me to going to OA in the first place. OA is my original program. Now I go to Emotions Anonymous, AA, Co-Dependents Anonymous, and Clutters Anonymous (yes, I save too much stuff, yes there is an anonymous group for too much stuff people).

9. Oh...I forgot one place where there is a meeting of sorts....(I think it is??)

Right here at the Addiction and Recovery (Group)...yes, I think this is sort of an on line meeting for 12 step people...hey that is ok..isn't it? Well, it isn't a "perfect" meeting. But, we are sharing our experience, strength and hope..that is very important.
