I found very little in the way of help. I had two friends who helped me through, but no organization was worth a damn. One wanted me to sign up for a group that wasn't going to start for 5 weeks.

It's a sad state of affairs for this country.

to set up mental health facilities. Emergency rooms serve as the conduit to those needing commitment. At least that is the way it is here. Many years ago a doctor saw a need for mental health care and set up a small clinic - this is a county of 77,000. It has expanded now to the point where they employ 150 people and they have a system set up for immediate care and more routine care as well. They work to get federal grant money and donations to do their work.

Private business has to jump in to take care of this segment of health care. The problem is - it not making anyone wealthy so it is a hard sell.

&/or try ins co again for more referrals.

It is a ridiculous, international disgrace, imo, the way mental health is an after thought.

That's the hangup. I have a family member who wanted some counseling for PTSD anxiety, and her medical clinic first gave her an appointment, and then said no -- Medicare wouldn't cover.

So the translation is that the particular doctor doesn't take assignment, I guess.
