Nervous-I tell my boss I'm not coming back from FMLA

But will need to go on long-term disability. I see my psychiatrist in the afternoon.

Feeling nervous. I do not want to go to my workplace to fill out paperwork. I'm so hoping I don't have to.

Feeling very anxious

2. Hi!

no, sadly not. I'll just see the doctor, get the news I need to be out longer, and let my boss know. Dreading it. Because I don't know what will happen

5. I went through that a couple years ago. It was tough. Mine is orthopedic problems. I was out

having a total left hip and knew I also needed the right hip and right knee done. I reached a point where if I went back, the issue was going to be making it until I had enough FMLA to have the right hip done. Then probably the same with the right knee.

I made the call to go on long term disability. In my case it was easy to show that I would reasonably expect to be off the full year required, so that was no problem. Then Liberty, the insurance carrier mandates you apply for Social Security disability so they become supplementary.

S.S. was a slam dunk. My arthritis now has me needing both shoulders done now too. I'm 60 so the S.S. is permanent as far as I know. I'm still fighting with Liberty, but they don't even know about the right shoulder yet. I had the right hip done in June and am holding off on the knee for COVID risk.

The worst part for me was the two years it took for Medicare to kick in. Once I had that, medical bills weren't too bad.

7. thank you for sharing your story

I also applied for ssdi about 3 months ago. I'm expecting to be turned down. I'm worried about Medicare, too.

13. I might be one of the few that threw a lawyer at S.S. to start with and didn't need to.

But I had no idea right off that I'd have the official diagnosis of the right hip in the bag. At first, it was just me knowing that was going bad fast.

With the pandemic and some other issues, I've been getting depressed. Then just the other day, I found out that this ex that I thought was dumping me, was not. It's a long story, but because of that, I made her think I was saying goodbye, and she thought I dumped her. Oh man. That is something I would never have done.

I'm getting a new primary care doc or nurse practitioner tomorrow, or start the process anyway. For the first time ever, I'm going to suck it up and ask to see a therapist to talk about that and a bunch of stuff. My dad was like me. I have a hard time talking to people about personal stuff. I know it can't hurt.

14. I have a lawyer lined up for the ssdi turn down

I did get short-term disability insurance: now filling out LTD paperwork with the same company.

Yes, see a therapist. Mine is very good. Sometimes I don't listen though, due to being anxious. Please take care of yourself.

6. I know it's hard but, you have

the right.

Take some deep breaths and try to stay calm.
It will be fine.

Remember this is what your MD is recommending for you. And, use the language-
“My doctor tells me I need more time” or whatever.

I wish you the best!

And, thank you Bill Clinton for giving us FMLA!

8. Deep breath. Good luck. Will be over soon.

Take a friend or family member with you. If you can, ask doc for a calming supplement.

11. I've had emps come to me with similar issues...

Needing to take more FMLA. Not one time have I've been surprised when it happened. It is what it is. I sign the paperwork and move on. It's part of the reason a good manager cross-trains their people.

15. Have HR overnight paperwork to you & return the same way.

Have you tried that Yale course yet? It might help with the anxiety.
