V.A. intern called to address issues raised in my annual V.A. physical

Her: "Your physician reported you are depressed would you like to see a psychiatrist?"

Me: "No. The psychiatrist and psychologist previously assigned to me have determined that I cannot be helped"

Her: Silence

Me: "Thanks for your concern. Sometimes things just can't work out. Bye..."

Her: "Thank-you for your service!"

Oh, why do we do play this game? It's all about making me feeling good about my service 40+ years ago? Can the system possibly be further off the mark?

That seems like incompetence to me. There has to be something someone can do for you.

If a doctor would have told me that back when I was suffering from symptoms I probably would not be alive right now.

no way to time effectively work a problem via 'talk therapy' that amps up dysfunction in the hours talking about it.

did his PhD on Shamanistic definitions of 'mental illness within the Menominee, and came into conflict with me when he assumed I'd accept that orientation to me.

When it's really bad I just pick weird hairs out of my face with the tweezers, play Freecell, or write useless 6502 code until my dogs demand I take them for their daily long walk.

But most of the time, thanks to modern meds, I'm more or less functional.

Some of my relatives never were. They lived in their own universes between very small apartments and the Circle-K, subsidized by family... not talking, watching ants on the trees on family picnics. Etc.

I watch ants too. I've established a treaty with the ant queens. They ants stay out of my kitchen but anything in the compost heap is theirs.
