Haven't had a cigarette for about 6 weeks and I feel like crap

Has this happened to any of you? I feel like I have the flu with symptoms that come and go and jump around my body. I've had chest pains, lump in my throat sensation, sore throat, achy joints, sinus problems, parts of me (like throat and inner ears) feels swollen. I had anxiety attacks, asthma attacks, getting dizzy.

I don't normally have any issues. I'm the type that never sees a Dr. but I have recently since all this is kinda freaking me out. She said she thinks I have GERD. Pecid has helped a little with the lump sensation but everything else is there and I don't want to keep going back like a hypochondriac.

I've read on other sites where other people have issues similar to this after quitting. Any of you guys, and if so, what did you do and how long did it last?

congrats on the time btw....i know for me about that time the cilia started regrowing in the lungs... this caused a lot of coughing, most symptoms Will improve with time.. i later found out that i had acquired COPD... a good check up with a physician is best if you have access..

once again congrats on the time... thats a big deal

First get a good check up, blood work etc and make sure your OK physically. You might have had an undetected illness before you stopped smoking.

I have some of the same symptoms , little anxiety, draining ears, mood swings, cough etc. Remember, your body is still healing from years of smoking POISON. Takes time both physically and emotionally. You are doing great, keep it up.

Your brain will give you lots of messages to trick you into smoking, saying you need the nicotine to feel better. I look at it like it's a game I am playing with my brain/ pleasure centers. It has been trained over a period of years to urge you to smoke at certain times. The more you resist the urge, the weaker the "smoke me, smoke me" message will be.
I found this site to be extremely useful in explaining some of the side effects I was having. Once you understand where they are coming from, they are much easier to overcome.

Yes its just because your body needs puff and its the best time to make your body should resist to the cigarettes so that you won't need puff further.

I doubt your symptoms have anything to do with smoking cessation.
If you are thinking of going back to smoking you can add failure to your list of maladies and a return to all the mental and physical problems that got you to give up smoking in the first place.
Before you go back to smoking go get some Nicorette gum (4mg),chew on about 6 pieces.

Many of the symptoms listed by the OP are common with smoking cessation even much longer than 6 weeks later, including asthma attacks.

Still I agree that a visit to the doc isn't a bad idea.
