What's for Dinner, Tues., Aug. 17, 2021

Half a Beyond burger and some sweet potato fries cooked in the air fryer. Served with the usual accompaniments like lettuce, tomato, raw onion, and maybe a little cheese.

I had half a cookie at the teacher's meeting today, so no dessert tonight.

The Landlady(!) has made her delicious Bolognese sauce and I'm boiling water for the rigatoni noodles. Nice division of labor, eh?

Actually, I'm making a big salad with lots of goodies on the Romaine lettuce: sliced green olives, chopped green peppers, thin slices of red onion, shreds of carrots, quartered cucumbers and halves of cherry tomatoes all topped with a light but creamy Caesar dressing and dusted with slivers of almonds.

I think we have a pinot noir in the wine rack.

NJCher, I'm impressed by your dessert discipline. Half a cookie? Really?!

Good for you.

Do you recall when you wrote a post a while back that said it sounded like a lot of food but you had small portions? Or something to that effect.

We, do small portions, too; I in one way and the RG has his way. Mine is to use an app and limit calories to 1500 a day. To do that, you have to cut a lot of corners, like using an air fryer, for example. Making pasta dishes with mostly vegetables and a very small amount of pasta is another common thing we do.

Sweets and fats are the killer, so my dessert that reads like this: "blueberries with rice pudding" is indeed blueberries, but maybe 2 tbsps of rice pudding. And tea after dinner, for me, anyway, is a real treat. Zero calories there.

I think the RG and I have the same principle, though. It's that the food tastes wonderful to a point, but after a certain point it's overkill. So over time we've found that we're not hungry, even with small portions.

And if we do get hungry later (as Miss Millie says, "go looking for dessert," ) we have either popcorn or watermelon.

I doctored-up a 3-meat pizza with some garlic, onions, peppers and extra-cheese. After it came out of the oven, I sprinkled some fresh basil on top.

I haven't thought about dessert, and I didn't bake anything because there's still some zucchini bread. A slice of that will do.

chops. I used seasoned flour to bread them -fried them in canola oil. I made white gravy with the drippings ...used salt, pepper and some sage. I made mashed potatoes and hubs made a salad dressed with lemon, olive oil and seasonings. We drank iced coffee. I should mention we are gluten free. I have an allergy and hubs loves me so he is also gluten free.
