Related: About this forumShelf stable aseptic milk in pouches, does anyone use this?
I like milk, but I cannot drink it in great amounts, so refrigerated milk goes sour& lumpy and is a money waste to me.
I am considering getting some in containers, like juice boxes that go in lunch boxes for school kids.
Has anyone used them before? Thx

(47,026 posts)I typically use the fresh regular soy milk sold with the milk in the refrigerated dairy isle.
However I also buy the soy milk in juice like boxes that do not need to be refrigerated.
I keep them in the pantry in the event I run out of fresh milk. I use it in my tea and it tastes fine.
I don't drink it straight, so cannot vouch for taste. But in cooking, baking and in tea it is great.

(3,291 posts)It tastes okay when first opened, though it's... warm.. I wasn't brave enough to leave it out after opening. So I can't say if the taste changes if not chilled after.

(36,461 posts)When I travel I take the little ones with me. They come in a 3-pack & are enough to pour over cereal. Or they have single packs that are larger. It's a nice solution if you only use a little bit now & then.

(9,265 posts)Used to get the juice box sized years ago for kids lunch box. Keep refrigerated if you can, tastes better. Just watch for expiration dates.

(102,240 posts)And the shelf stability is generally measured in months (typically 6-12), for those who want to stock it in their emergency stash in the pantry.

(7,528 posts)I often kept this in the fridge when we were using lots of milk as an emergency backup if we ran out. If you only drink milk occasionally, the UHT (ultra high-temp pasteurized) milk in the single-serving foil boxes or pouches seems a great idea.
My other trick is I kept a box of dry powdered milk for use in recipes only - if you have a dish that calls for milk it's easy to mix that up real quick with water instead of using fresh milk and it doesn't require refrigeration.
