It looks like this, enamel on cast iron:
I don't think I've eaten any aebleskiver in fifty years but I'm excited to try them again! But now, I'll have to do all the work, instead of begging Mom to make them

(15,801 posts)We grew up with Mom and Grandma spending a day preparing the dough in a big turkey roasting pan, covering it and leaving it to rise overnight. Then they'd spend half a day making the aebleskivers. Every Christmas morning our breakfast was aebleskivers and hot cocoa. I'm no longer able to make them myself, I simply cannot stand for any length of time. So I gave my skirted cast iron pans to my nephew and his wife, and now they make them.
Our recipe came from the great-grandparents who were immigrants from Denmark, and there is nothing on earth that has that delightful aroma. My sister, God bless her, finally found a way to reduce the recipe; the original made enough to feed whole neighborhoods. Nowadays, I get to enjoy aebleskivers when I go visit for Christmas, a sweet hello from family long gone.
Enjoy!
