Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumWe just got 3 dozen fresh eggs!!!!
Al and I eat eggs for breakfast just about every day. So without even thinking about eggs used for baking or other recipes, we're at more than 8 dozen for a month.
We always gave our egg crates to the mail carrier, who lives right down the street on the corner. We figured since she had chickens, she could use them. We've probably given her a couple hundred egg crates over the years. Not once has she ever "thanked" us with some free fresh eggs.
So, Al posted on the neighborhood FB page that we had about 50 crates which we'd be willing to give up for 2 dozen eggs. He got a hit immediately, and when the guy came to pick them up, he gave us an extra dozen eggs. He said his birds are giving him 2 dozen eggs a day.
Turns out that if he had to buy the egg crates, they would cost him 69 cents each. (For 50 crates that comes to $34.50!) No wonder he was so willing to part w/ an extra dozen eggs.
We also learned that it's against the law for him to sell his eggs in crates that have a brand or a store label on them. Because he was so generous, I'm thinking we can spray paint the next batch of crates we give him.
I think I'm making some egg salad today.

(26,109 posts)is styrofoam safe. Good idea for a trade! And good on the farmer for being generous with an extra dozen.

(9,267 posts)Makes perfect hard boiled eggs, shells just slip off. 6 minutes. Worth the price just for that.
