I admit it, I have NO self-control when it comes to these babies. I can never resist their siren song in the market and even the outrageous price per cherry doesn't keep me from scarfing down a couple of handfuls the minute they are washed.
So, SO good!

(29,098 posts)One of the many benefits of living in WA. Usually they are a dollar more a pound than the reds but Albertsons has them for the same price this week.
This time of year...I eat them every day and still can't get enough.
They are having a hard time getting enough pickers so many will rot on the trees this year...What a shame. They had the same problem with the asparagus.
I was going to drive over the pass this weekend on a Cherry outing but I doubt they would be any cheaper over there

(9,992 posts)I imagine eating three out of four cherries one picks is frowned upon anyway.
Lucky you on that price. Here, it's basically double that.
Oh well, it's only once a year and we'll have spaghetti a few nights to make up for the indulgence.

(29,098 posts)I subscribe to a lot of sustainable, organic and local farm groups and one of the Organic farms that supplies my CSA was offering a free weekend on the farm. They were inviting about two dozen foodies to bring tents and come over and enjoy the farm experience for the weekend. They supplied the food...the guests the labor. It got filled up within an hour or two. Great way of marketing their farm, getting folks of a like mind together and getting their work done for them at a relatively low cost.

(6,581 posts)$2.99 a lb, same as the red cherries. Usually they are at least $2 more a lb. And they were really, really great, too. Which is good, because Michigan has NONE, ZIP, ZERO, NADA. Weather totally screwed us up this year, no tree fruit at all, virtually a 100% crop loss due to 90s in March followed by hard freezes in April.
I bought MINE at a Kroger. I can't haz cheap cherries?????

(51,907 posts)--and so if money is short, I generally just buy less of them. You have a good camera--that is some first class gastroporn.

My hands were too covered w/cherry juice to take a picture.

(9,992 posts)and, clearly, go gaga for the Raniers. Not even sure how I first tried a Ranier b/c I wouldn't normally be drawn to a fresh cherry. Luckily, there apprear to be plenty of both cherries for all in the stores now.

(70,178 posts)they aren't supposed to do well in my part of the country, but i am going to plant a few anyway. i am in a bit of a microclimate, plus plan to pamper the little darlings half to death.
was going to buy some at costco last week, but they were so "sampled" that some of the boxes were half empty. at $5.99/lb, i wasn't going there. haven't had any thing year.

(60,018 posts)I don't like mushy cherries - so we do the splurge when they are really fresh.
Our favorite snack at this time of year - big bowl of fruit - watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple - with lots of cherries freshly cut mixed in.....and most of the melons are now coming in local/fresh at the farmers market!
