What's for Dinner, Sat., July 23, 2022

Turkey burritos with avocado, chopped tomatoes, onion, grated cheddar, lettuce. Corn salsa (TJs). Flour tortilla.

I shopped for all fresh items this morning because I want this to be really good.

Sharing with my friend who is just home from the UK. Says the food in London is terrible and so I think he deserves a good meal.

I'm making my own seasoning, using this mix.

I already made strawberry milkshakes for dessert. Will serve with dried fruit and nut mix on the side; of course, chilled decaf coffee.

It is 96 here! I already cooked the turkey in the slow cooker, along with onion and garlic.

So salad's what's for dinner. Romaine and red leaf lettuce, chopped curly kale, tomatoes, red onions, red bell peppers, kalamata olives, feta, toasted flax and pumpkin seeds, and homemade vinaigrette.

Slightly cooler than it will be the next couple of days, with finally a little relief and hopefully some rain by the end of the coming week.

I started my homemade tomato sauce in the slow cooker this morning. Decided to start it with pork neck bones this time, like my Italian gran used to on occasion. Just took them out so they can cool and I can strip the meat off and add it back to the sauce. Dropped the raw meatballs (1 lb. ground chuck mixed with 1 lb. Italian sausage) into the sauce to cook. Should be ready in about an hour.

Serving over angel hair with a side of green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.

Have a great meal with your friend!

Appetizer
Zucchini flowers, floured and sautéed and served with a tangy tomato sauce.

Entree
Grilled NY strip steaks. Homegrown green beans, steamed and seasoned. Quartered potatoes, seasoned and grilled.

Dessert
Chocolate ice cream with vanilla wafers.

ETA: It's 92º F. in the Catskills but there's a lovely breeze that's slowly cooling it down. Still, it was a steamy day!

Our stove made a loud pop and died while I was cooking dinner last night, so no cooking until after the repair person comes Monday.
