Very disappointed. I made 100 Russian tea cakes over Christmas for gift giving and Christmas parties and only tasted a few to make sure I had the recipe right. I did change recipes to one that had less flour and I thought I hit the right balance. Two cups of flour, for anyone who is interested, and not a fraction more. And make sure the butter is completely at room temperature.
Okay, the nuts. On the last batch when we were down to a dozen cookies, I took a bite out of one and my teeth rammed down on a nutshell. Ouch! I dreaded to think that was the kind of experience that others would have.
I use Mariana Chopped Walnuts from Publix to begin with and chop them down some more to get them to the right size for the recipe. I was hoping it was a fluke, but I sprinkled some nuts straight out of the bag this morning for my oat meal, and bam. There it was again.
Is there a better brand out there to use for higher quality? Though, seriously, we have been using Mariana Chopped Walnuts for years for our oatmeal and never had a problem. Could it have been that one bag?
