i'm fantasizing about what i want to do for dinner tonight and thought i'd start the thread.
we'll probably head to dad's tonight and i've got a simple vision - brats simmered in hard cider (sister is gluten intolerant) then grilled, topped with caramelized onions and saurkraut with corn on the cob, i'm still thinking on the other side. maybe potato salad if i can talk my husband into making it, his potato salad is to die for.
it shouldn't take much to convince them that this is what we should do for dinner.
what's for eating on this glorious labor day?
hope you're doing ok, lucinda

(24,146 posts)i love stir-fry. that will probably be dinner tomorrow, we have some produce that needs used.
Ribs, corn, garden green beans and potato salad. I put a rub on the pork 2 days ago. It smoked for 3 hours this morning. Finishing in the oven, sealed in foil. I'm relaxing with some herb until the kids show up. Happy labor day all, and I hope the coming autumn is kind to you.

(22,142 posts)Got together with my childhood friend and some of his family and neighbors. I brought Creamy Cole Slaw and a chocolate cake. They had everything....and even made a veggie burger for me, which was not necessary, but appreciated.
Hope you had a great day too .

(35,669 posts)Hey, lth, I made creamy cole slaw, too. I used the Martha Stewart version from the American recipes cookbook. It wasn't anything I couldn't have done out of my head, though, as I found out when I tasted it.
One thing for certain, I think, is that a good cole slaw is almost impossible to buy. I used Savoy for my slaw. I think it's a milder taste than a regular cabbage.
Plus it was beautiful. Very green with carrot and onion. The stuff at the deli is practically white. Where's the color!?
Large BLT with lots of lettuce, turkey bacon, and tomatoes from my garden. That and the cole slaw went from lunch to dinner.
One lucky thing was I stopped by Trader Joe's and bought some ice cream bars: S'Mores. They are good!
Fizzgig, your Labor Day dinner sounds so terrific I may copy it for another meal this week.

(4,473 posts)and made some potato salad. Torta caprese for afters
6 ounces (175 g) dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces
4 oz (100 g) unsalted butter
1 tablespoon almond extract
1 cup (250 g) granulated sugar
1¼ cups ground almonds
5 eggs at room temperature, separated
¼ tsp salt
Preheat an oven to 350°F and line the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper. Butter the paper and the sides of the pan.
Slowly melt the chocolate and butter, stirring until the chocolate is melted. Cool to room temperature. Add the yolks to the chocolate mixture one at a time, stirring until each yolk is incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the almonds and the sugar.
Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold in the chocolate mixture until no white shows. Pour the mixture into the spring form pan. Make sure the mixture is level and smooth on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes. Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
