I'm thinking I'll make that for tomorrow night...

That means I need to get those beans soaking. I found a wonderful wire basket thingy that I put the beans in, and then I set it down into a large stew pot full of cold water. The wire basket makes it super easy to get the beans out!

Hmm...I'd better get going with those beans.

Ten Bean Soup

1/4 cup of each of the following:

Blackeyed peas

Large lima beans

Pinto beans

Navy beans

Pearl barley

Split green peas

Small lima beans

Red beans

Great Northern Beans

Lentils

Wash thoroughly, place in large container, cover with water and add two tablespoons salt. (I omit the salt.) Soak overnight.

Next day, in either morning or afternoon (depending on when you want to eat it), drain, add 2 quarts of water and 2 ham hocks. (You may also use 1/2 pound ham, and if you do, add that in the last hour.) Bring to a boil. Stir occasionally. Simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hours covered, then add:

I large onion, chopped

1 large can tomatoes

1 pod red pepper or 1 teaspoon chili powder

Juice of 1 lemon

1 bay leaf

5 peppercorns

2 cloves

1 cup chopped celery

Simmer another hour, covered. If you wish, serve with crusty bread and a salad.

It is without question the tastiest bean soup I have ever eaten! You can freeze any amount of it. The original recipe is supposed to feed 12, though I have never tested that.

I hope you try it, and I hope you'll enjoy it.

6. A version of Callalily's lovely blackeyed pea soup recipe and whole grain cornbread.

I altered the recipe to meet my tastes:

Blackeyed peas and with the broth to make soup, with sauted onions in olive oil, a full package of fresh spinach leaves and lots of Mrs. Dash's Salt-Free Extra Spicy Seasoning.

Indian buffet. My fave was there: lentil doughnuts. Plus big serving dishes of tandoori chicken, chicken vindaloo, etc.

And my favorite: saag paneer.

Dessert was blackberries and mint tea.
