Alton Brown (mostly) retires "Good Eats"

Yep, Good Eats, in its 30 minute format, is going away. (Old news but new to me, maybe to you too)

Exclusive interview with Alton Brown as he wraps up ‘Good Eats’

Food Network’s “Good Eats” has devoured Alton Brown’s life for 13 years over 250 episodes. Next week, the metro Atlanta resident is planning to finish taping his last episode, a one-hour special on dark chocolate.

In an exclusive interview earlier this week at his Atlanta office, Brown said the relentless pace of producing the meticulously crafted, assiduously researched and always entertaining food education show hindered time for other pursuits.

“I feel after 250,” Brown said, “I can walk away from that library of work and feel good about it and know it’s had an effect to some degree on somebody besides me and those who worked on it. And it will hold its own for awhile. We wanted to make sure they were dense, juicy and succulent and last a long time.”

Besides, he said, the six-year-old set is “worn out. If we kept going, we’d have to replace it.” Instead it will be dismantled.

Alton Brown Ends Good Eats

Two days ago Alton Brown tweeted: "G.E. fans, I've decided to cut the half hour series at 249 eps. There will be 3 new 1 hour eps this year and that's it. But mourn not." (The tweet was deleted but it still shows up on Twitter's search.) Brown is still involved with the Food Network, however. Back in March he signed a new three-year deal with the network that keeps him on Next Iron Chef, Iron Chef America, as well as "three one-hour themed Good Eats specials tied to Thanksgiving." the bastids at Food Network should make them available eventually.

Cablevision doesn't have the Cooking channel and Food Network is heading toward 24 hours of Sandra Lee and Guy Fieri-- Brown quitting the show goes along with the other people who actually know food leaving.

Now, where would one find Brown's old PBS shows?

I still watch episodes online. I understand that it's time to move on, but the show will be missed.
