He was always my favorite food critic when he worked for the Houston Press weekly. While I don't eat meat, I could still appreciate his reviews, even of meat-based dishes. He was never anti-vegetarian, either, as with some foodies.

Here's an old article he did on Chili con carne that includes some interesting history on its origins
