i posted a rather long time ago asking for recommendations and either njcher or grasswire suggested the cook's illustrated 30-minute recipe book. well, i finally got it and spent last night going through it and OMFG I CAN'T WAIT TO PUT THESE RECIPES IN MY MOUTH! i can't decide what i'm going to make first.
thank you, friend, for pointing me in the right direction

(2,302 posts)Their publications are full of great recipes. I'm limited as to what I can make, since I follow a low-carb diet, but every single one I've tried (including their tirami su for a big holiday) comes out wonderful!

(24,146 posts)i poured over the book last night and started making a list of what looks good so that i could make a quick reference guide. i filled up one side of the sheet of paper and i'm not even halfway through the book
i love to cook, but i generally don't get home from work until near 10 and my level of enthusiasm for a big production is pretty low. they have a bunch of skillet pasta meals that i'm really interested in trying.

(4,473 posts)Sometimes the recipes are very good, and sometimes not. Their attitude of "this is the one true way to cook <X>" is pompous at best. I ordinarily make a baked macaroni and cheese -- a recipe I got from a James Beard cookbook, I forget which one -- but I once made the stovetop macaroni and cheese recipe from Best American Classics and the universal reaction in my family was "never use that recipe again".

I do recommend Eating Well to people occasionally.
Enjoy!
