What's for Dinner, Mon., Jan. 11, 2015

My dear friend Anna, who is Russian, treated me to an early dinner of mushroom soup and stuffed cabbage rolls. There was also a rustic bread. For dessert, tea and a poppy seed roll. Anna also served another type of dessert, which was made from an Ina Garten recipe for dark chocolate and dried cranberries.

A Czechoslovakian artist friend of hers was invited, too, and she showed me her art portfolio. What a talent. Such a nice gathering.

classes.

We are having leftovers from yesterday--always a nice bonus. Heating up pork/sauerkraut, mashers, lima beans, and kale salad on the side.

And a rather big one, drumstick and thigh. With Brussels sprouts and mashers. Oh, and a cranberry sauce (?). I'm using dried cranberries, with orange, and a spot of white wine. I doubt I'll add sugar.

ps: Now I understand why it's called Italian "wedding" soup. From "minestra maritata", or married zuppa. It always bugged me why after 10 Italian weddings, I was never served the soup! Today, it's our Christmas soup. And we just call it "soup" or zuppa or minestra.

OK, that's what happens when you ask an Italian chef... you get answers. That only took 30 yrs....

made Czechen Stroganov -- chicken thighs braised in tomato puree, mushrooms and pearl onions browned in butter, wide egg noodles then combo all and add sour cream, paprika (some smoked, mostly plain sweet pap), and dill. Ate too much of it, so good.
