Question About Blenders

I am in the market for a good blender.Thinking about Vitamix.
Any suggestions about a basic Vitamix or a really good one not as expensive as the Vitamix?

Thank you!

1. Vitamix is selling a smaller blender with the same power as the regular

Vitamix for about $270 something, rather than the over $350 one. Go to QVC.com and search for it. It has the same powerful motor but on a smaller scale. Check it out. I have the big Vitamix that I paid about $379 for. I love it! But if you can get the same power in a smaller size, I'd go for it.

4. Mine is Vitamix Creations II. The one I mentioned that I saw on QVC

on Memorial Day weekend was the Vitamix S30, which they were selling for $270. It had family sized 40 oz container and a 20 oz personal smoothie container. I just checked QVC for the video and their price now is $399! with 4 easy payments of $99. Keep watching the QVC show on Sundays "In the Kitchen with David" from 12:00 to 3:00 where they sell a lot of these products with a one-time bargain price for them.

Good luck!

5. Vitamix and Blentec compare pretty well

Both make commercial and semi-commercial blenders. Both have far more power than your average blender.

I like the Blendtec because they have electronic controls that ramp up the speed of the blender automatically. They are also programmable so that you can save various profiles for various tasks like ramping up slow to medium or high speed, ramping up then alternating between slow and high, etc. They also have a high and low button for manual operation. This makes operation as simple as selecting the preset for you task and leaving the blender alone to finish. This is how professional operations usually do it which is why you see more Blendtec blenders in that setting.

On the older Vitamix blenders you had to do all this manually, which gives you more control, but harder to repeat a given operation. I'm not sure how the newer Vitamix blenders work.

The Blendtec I have is a refurbished commercial model. I've had it for a few years and it still runs like a champ with no issues whatsoever. What I really like about it is it has a plexiglass guard that surrounds it and greatly cuts down on the noise. It also prevents you from slinging food all over the kitchen if you forget to put the lid on.

So if you want to save some money, you might look at used or refurbished. Both Vitamix and Blendtec are built like a tank and most people just aren't going to wear one out.

11. The one I have is model ICB3, 1500 watts

There used to be a lot of refurbs of this model, but now they seem to only be available on the used market.

14. Thanks

I have been eyeballing a Blendtec for a while. When I make my habanero sauce (I'll share my recipe, if it is wanted), because of the quantity I make (I have "junkies" constantly asking me 'when are you making more hot sauce?') I always have to blend in two batches. I like the big container (what is it really called?) and know that the BT has the power to handle the quantity.

15. The one I have uses relatively smaller pitchers

Blentec makes larger ones, but I can't use them in the one I have due to the shield. They call the bigger one the Wildside Jar. I could remove the shield and use it, but I prefer the shield to a larger pitcher. You can fill it up nearly to the capacity of the pitcher because the extra power means the blender can handle it.

I have a few different recipes for salsa depending on what kind of mood I'm in.

16. I love to see your habanero sauce recipe.

I have a scaled down version of what we make at work, but it was a little watery. Yummy. But watery.

7. I bought a Vitamix

after getting tired of replacing my blenders every 2 years. Love it. I bought it at Sur La Table, which offers and extended warranty. In fact, the motor had some problems a few months after I bought it. I shipped it back to Vitamix and they returned the repaired blender within 2 days. Worked like a charm ever since.
