I'm doing a simple chicken and wild rice and mushroom soup tonight. Am open for suggestions as to an accompaniment.

with a balsamic reduction. Roasted garlic mashed spuds, and (probably) steamed green beans.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm "seafood'ed out".

with a stick of smoked cheddar in the middle. Baked potatoes, broccoli and grapefruit. Ideal weather for an oven meal here.

Florida here, not Vermont, but with 38-degree winds blowing rain sideways across the marsh and projected 27 degrees (!) tonight, I asked my husband how tuna casserole sounded, and he jumped on that comfort food idea with real enthusiasm.

One of those things we seldom have, just when all of a sudden it sounds just perfect.

The recipe I still use is the only creamed-soup survivor from when I started cooking in the 1970s.
