Recs for food grade mineral oils?
I used olive.oil in the distant past, that didn't work, the olive oil imparted a rancid taste after a while.

(23,313 posts)an oil specifically for cutting boards. Mine is walnut...I oil it and let a good amount sink in overnight. I dont know exactly what oil it is but it works well and a bottle lasts a really long time. Sounds like a great cutting board!

(36,827 posts)I just make sure it says food grade, which it will be if you get it at a pharmacy or grocer.
My basic routine is I clean with soap and water, rinse, towel dry, disinfect with white vinegar, and treat with mineral oil about once per month. Ive had my maple cutting board for something like 30 years and it still is in excellent shape. I dont use it for any raw meats and use poly boards for that.
My dad had a maple board for about 50 years. He did use his for raw meats so he disinfected with ammonia which probably isnt a bad idea if you must do raw meat on a wooden board.
