Lancaster County, Pa. We stopped at a Mennonite farm stand yesterday and stocked up on fruits and veggies. Breakfast included grilled tomatoes and onions, fresh peaches and blackberries, and veggie sausages. Going to try a new recipe for fresh tomato soup with basil when we head home. Love this time of year!

(31,997 posts)Most farm stands are at their peak with fresh corn, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, etc.
I sometimes make cream of tomato-basil soup in a large batch and freeze it. You can't beat a warm bowl full along with a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold day in January!

If ever I find myself without appetite. ...Unusual, but it happens. My go to is tomato basil soup. I can come back from anything with this soup! Lol.

(42,770 posts)come and gone. Did have a lot of success when sweet corn at its absolute peak. When the kernels are small and bursting with moisture. I shucked them and broke in half put in baggies and sucked the air out with a straw and threw them in the freezer. I did it last year and I swear they come out very good. I am in Texas and I am trying to start a fall batch of tomatoes.

(1,089 posts)That is something we can't do around here! No new crop of fall tomatoes!
I look forward to broccoli, cauliflower, squash and of course, our famous varieties of apples.
