What's for Dinner, Sun., Apr. 14, 2019

Appetizer: sliced honeycrisp apples with gorgonzola cheddar spread and walnuts.

Vegetable soup with meatballs is the main dish.

Salad is yet to be determined but I know it's being made with red cabbage. No recipe; comes from the RG's imagination.

p.s. did you know the reason honeycrisp apples taste so crisp is that the cells of the apple fracture cleanly when bitten into? It's a unique characteristic of this cultivar. No other apple has that trait.

1. German tonight

My favorite supermarket had homemade Bauernwursts (pork and beef with spices). I had to buy them! I'll pan-fry them with onions and serve with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, sauerkraut and steamed green beans with sliced almonds. I also picked up a super-coarse spicy mustard. This feast will be washed down with copious quantities of Dinkelacker beer.

Dutch chocolates for dessert.

Yum!

We used to have a German restaurant around here but it closed. The RG and I would go there about once a month or so and have schnitzel and other German delights. Can't say as I've ever had a Dinkelacker, but tomorrow I'm going to check the wine store. This place has everything and I would be surprised if it didn't have Dinkelacker.

Tonight I'm baking a sweet potato/broccoli mix and am trying 'Beyond Burger' for the first time. I'll top that with swiss cheese & onions.
It feels chilly today, so hot sweet tea and a milano cookie pack.

This is pretty low effort. I used 6 large Yukon gold potatoes, 2 onions and 300 grams of thick bacon. Pan deglazed with white wine. I topped it with long slices of Costco brie. Bake for 45 min at 375.

top round steak rubbed with an espresso rub cooked on the grill

sweet potato and Vidalia onion in foil packets also cooked on the grill

green beans steamed w/ garlic and lemon zest

I made a batch of brownies, but there's some watermelon in the fridge and I'm thinking I might want to have my first watermelon of the year.

There were two lamb chops and copious amounts of couscous salad. I am going out later so will take a nap and zap the leftovers when I get up. 😎
Hafta work tomorrow but it is a four day week! Yeehaw!
