Sauté the cabbage and onions with just a bit of burger drippings

(17,984 posts)You fry your cabbage first? Ws going to try vegetable soup with ground beef an old friend told me about. Not enough vegetables .
Yum! My husband makes this! His folks were
feeding 13 Polish Catholic kids.

(9,265 posts)Most involve rice but kidney beans sounds great. Cabbage, onions, tomatoes, ground beef. Sounds healthy too. Unfortunately my husband has Crohns and some vegetables do not agree with him, cabbage is one of them.

IIRC my Polish Grandma made a soup with leftover ham (usually the day after Easter) and something like noodles and cabbage in it. I was too small to remember much else. Oh, yeah, and cabbage!
Hope you all enjoy!!!

(13,188 posts)But if you want a tip, always roast or saute the cabbage before making the soup
Otherwise you have to leave the soup on simmer for hours.
Quarter 2 heads of cabbage and. Drizzle with oil.
Salt and pepper liberally
Put in a 425 degree oven for 15 minutes.
Then start the soup recipe
TEB
(12,842 posts)I did sauté before I started soup but I didnt do the 425 in the oven. Ill do that next time , doing chili today I have maybe another week lay off with the union.
On the bright side the polish is all gone boys loved it so it is in the rotation thanks top
