Cabbage rolls stuffed with chicken and covered with cream sauce. The picture just shows the rolls in process.
Small bowl of cannellinis. Rustic bread.
Baby arugula salad with cherry tomatoes, red onion, Persian cucumber.
Dessert: Espresso cookies and a fruitcake that just came in the mail. Decaf tea.
TJ has some beef (London Broil) in the pressure cooker and just added potatoes, carrots, onions and celery.
FLFC has been walking around commenting on the aroma. There is nothing to give him yet.
It's been a gray, cold, damp and lightly snowing day. The house needs to be warmed up.
We're roasting a full bird rock 'n' roll style, (spicy and juicy). Steamed asparagus and roasted red potatoes.
The house is starting to feel good again! Besides, I'm getting hungry.

cup rice wine
3 1?2
tablespoons sugar
1
tablespoon sesame oil
1?4
teaspoon white pepper
2

1

1
tablespoon minced ginger
2
tablespoons cornstarch

DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, broth, rice wine, sugar, sesame oil and white pepper. (See note in intro about the soy sauce).
Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/4 cup water.
Heat a pan over high heat; add the cooking oil, swirling to coat; add the garlic and ginger; cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 15 seconds.
Add the soy sauce mixture; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium and cook for 1 minute.
Add the cornstarch solution and cook, stirring, until the sauce boils and thickens.
I tweak the sauce for added spiciness if needed.

(15,090 posts)Standard beef filling. The recipe called for putting the head of cabbage into boiling water to soften the outer leaves. That worked well, but now I have a leftover parboiled cabbage I have to do something with.
