My 'where the heck did THIS come from?' Clematis is looking fine, this morning

At least I THINK it's a Clematis. I'm sure I never planted it.

1. It *is* a clematis

And a beautiful one at that!

Our dogs always dug ours up. I tried to nurture one several times but never had any luck with them.

2. My Mother insisted that clematises did best facing east and

With their roots protected. She proped, firmly, two wooden shingles to shield the roots. I followed her advice and within a few years my clematis were 10 feet tall and full of blooms.

P.S. don't forget a trellis or runner of chain link fence.

3. It actually IS facing east

And it's growing on a fence, along with an ABUNDANT Honeysuckle bush. Also not planted by me.

5. Mine face east, are planted to run up the carport and they have. Plus another 60 feet into the trees

But those few weeks in March when it all smells so nice makes it worth it!

Spending a summer evening out side smelling the flowers....absolute heaven.

8. oh man....all my flowers are going CRAZY this year too and some i planted several

..years ago have finally emerged. But the regulars are also going crazy. Im like you.. where did THESE come from?

Also I have an indoor grow box for herbs ( basil. tomatoes etc) and the darn things in the grow box are actually out growing it. I also have an Aero Garden that went crazy so I had to cut most of that growth back. Its just weird. im in the Pacific Northwest and other than having a kinda mild winter the weather isnt all that much different.

10. My clematis was monstrous this year!

Everything did well in fact. My Stella d’Oros are huge and full of blooms. I was thinking it was because we left everything alone last year. The weather has been kind of tropical here this year though. Very warm, plenty of rain. I even have a few cherry tomatoes! (PA)

11. My tomatoes are just starting to appear

Lots of blossom and a few fruit starting to show. Same with the peppers. The summer squash is starting to wake up, too.

Michigan weather has been a real rollercoaster. We went from the very high 80's to the low 60's with some nice, very much needed, rain. It looks like we'll be in the low 80's with nighttime temps in the mid 60's, for a while. Not ideal tomato weather but it is relatively 'early' in the growing season.

I've GOT to get the mowing done by tomorrow because it looks like more drought erasing rain is on the way, this weekend.
