Anyone know a vendor of men's boots with smooth soles?

The big-assed lugs look very macho, and I suppose they are great for mountain hiking, but they aren't very convenient in garden soil as they become packed with dirt/mud which then must be removed with some sort of sharp implement and a brush.

I'd really like to find a pair of ankle high boots that can be cleaned on my boot scraper, which works poorly for lugged soles

Muck brand boots that I found at the thrift store. New ones cost more, of course, but they are made for ranching and farming primarily. I got them when I was renting a place where I helped tend the horses, there's always mud/dung to trudge through so these boots are made for that. They are comfortable and clean up easily, I think they make a low cut boot.

There are other brands who make very similar products. If you go to a site like Sierra trading post and you do a search for that brand, other, similar brands will come up as suggestions. You might find what you're looking for that way.

5. look at western (cowboy) boots

especially riding styles, boots for corrals have your same requirements

lots of styles from classic pointy toes and stacked heels to dual purpose that look like sport shoes.

8. I just use an old pair of walking shoes for gardening and lawn mowing...

...and remove them before entering the house. Never have to clean them.

We have an outdoor chair that's handy as a shoe changing station.

10. What you want are Dainite soles

Many boots are sold with them or you can resole other boots with Dainite soles if the boots are made to be resoled. They are a good compromise between deep lugs and smooth soles. You won't tend to slip in loose soil, but they don't hold on to much mud and clean easily.
