I've noticed since the big rain, the air is choc a bloc with BILLIONS and BILLIONS of flying insects.

I just mowed half of the back lot. Had to skip the rest because I was driving through CLOUDS of bugs. Not sure I've ever seen anything like this. I might wait until it rains to check if there are any more squash ready to be picked.

I'm in Michigan, btw. I don't know how they are even able to fly. The humidity is 65% and the dew point is 62%. It feels like you can practically drink the air. Well, if you enjoy ingesting bugs, that is.

Weeding can wait. I deserve an adult beverage after that experience.

The other day I noticed that my car windshield had more squashed bugs on it than I've seen in a long time, and yesterday evening while I was doing some gardening the mosquitoes in my back yard were so numerous and hungry that I had to give up and go inside. It hasn't been that bad in years.

ants and termites fly after it rains. (this is their "annual" mating opportunity) it is amazing and feeds a lot of other critters for a few hours.

Minimal maintenance. Not pushing it in the humidity. Swam down to the garden today harvested medicinals .

It was quite the process. I got it spread but then it needs to be moistened. I got the hoses ready but notice one had a leak. No problem. I'll switch it out. Nope - it's corroded to the spigot. Decided to mend it. Nope. The diameter is too small for the mending pieces I have. Poured coca cola on the corrosion and waited. Eventually I was able to swap out the hoses, find the sprinkler and get the process in motion.

The nematode spray arrives tomorrow. I'll wait until we get past the rain that's in the forecast before I use it, though. I actually bought 2 so that I can keep on top of stuff.

Now to figure out how to get some sort of flea treatment on the outdoor fur babies. A couple of them are very friendly. A couple more are definitely not. The one that's been around the longest, Skittish, now hisses at me. She never used to do that but she's probably about 6 years old, so she's kind of elderly for a feral.

The indoor flea traps are GREAT. Now that I realize how much of the problem was coming in on my clothes, I do a very thorough brush off and spray my clothes with vinegar before I come back inside.

Next year I am definitely going to pay for a lawn company to spray for fleas.

I have been putting a little bit of vinegar in the feral's drinking water. I bought some spray on flea killer but I am doubtful they will let me use it on them.
