We're doing a spiral-like beet variety (think starlight mints), a 2" radish with pure white flesh and a dark purple skin, our standard purple potatoes, all kinds of shit. I'm sort of psyched about it. The garden had been organic for ten years now and the soil is fluffy and ready. Our compost doesn't even look like it needs to be sifted. We started with solid shale. That took many days with a huge pick axe to break up (with safety goggles of course). We still have a patty pan squash from this year's crop (still good) and a shitload of potatoes. We use damn near everything from the garden. If nothing else, my kids will know how to grow their own food should the need arise.

I got some seed soil mix, replacement seeds are in and we're building the little cold frame on the deck today. I am so excited. I got a 2 up flat seed mat, so I can now start 144 little plants.

I'm going to plant 24 broccoli to start and then when this batch goes into little pots, I'll start the next. We love broccoli and I got a freezer last year, so frozen fresh broccoli is in our future! I'm digging the trench in one of my beds today and will plant potatoes starting this week. I met with a gardening company yesterday and they're going to come and build my last bed and clean the fence line so I can plant vines and bushes on the road to create our privacy fence.

Oh yes, I'm excited.
