2. Thank you for these.

It is nothing but rain, rain, rain and gray skies with no end in sight here (at LEAST another two weeks, they say.)

Lovely to see some sunshine and color!

4. It's the Omega blocking pattern.

US National Weather Service New York NY

Wonder why we are experiencing what seems to be days on end of unsettled weather? You have the Omega Block to thank! As the graphic shows, an Omega Block happens when 2 upper level troughs are present, usually over the east and west coasts, with a stagnant high pressure ridge building over the middle of the country. These lows remain nearly stationary, bringing with it a recurring chance for rain over the coasts, while the middle of the country enjoys nice, warm weather. So, this prolonged period of unsettled weather will continue until the ridge breaks down, allowing westerly flow to resume once again.

6. May be a sign of chaos to come.

Though the last large El Niņo events that quickly reversed to La Niņa like this one is doing led to cool damp springs for the northeast. On the other hand, the latter portion of summer was a roast fest.
