Related: About this forumhow to eliminate dark tear/eye stains??
i have a new little white dog and she has those dark stains from her eyes. a friend said something about giving her only distilled water to drink. (i have a pur water filter but...?)
a pet store suggested "angel eyes" but i don't really know anything about that except it is pretty expensive & you put it in their food (i don't know what it does exactly, or if it's safe) (is distilled water safe to drink?)
i've been using a liquid call "excel" that is supposed to remove tear stains but, after a week, it hasn't done anything.
any suggestions? anyone know what to do?

um...okay--but she's been a little bitey tonight. you know, killing that soft, pink, fluffy blanket; beating up the little, stuffed zebra; tossing the shit out of her chew bone; nipping at my hands! she's a busy girl. probably doesn't have much time for a hug. maybe a small meal of snow but that's about it. lol.

(3,163 posts)My wife is always picking at the cats eyes to remove the goop, kind of bugs the cat but she is mostly used to it now. The cat just sort of squints her eyes shut and puts up with it. Tje goop doesn't bother the cat, or me, but it bugs the hell out of my wife.
Every time it is present when we take her to the vet the vet does the same thing, apologizing to us and to the cat the whole time. She says she does the same thing to her cat.
So if you're like me ignore it. If your're like my wife pick the goop from the dog's eyes and very mildly annoy the dog.

(18,219 posts)which is not the case for many breeds, I would not use it---not only would it do no good, but it could make it harder to treat an infection if you have that problem in the future.
I have recently found a Persian cat running loose in the neighborhood, and it has a brownish stain that the vet told me is normal and is not due to infection. All I do is to take a damp cloth and wipe her face around the eyes every day. It doesn't stop the stains, but I believe that they are less than they were at first. The stain is just from the skin cells of the eyelids that are shed naturally, and mix with tears. You can't stop nature.
