I am trying to support a local place but they had some sort of ordering mix up and they were out of the food I've been feeding the pups. I checked around and not too many places carry it. Chewy.com offers a regular delivery but I am kinda leery of that too. Just had some packages disappear from UPS and I don't know if I want to chance it with puppy food.
I'm feeding two rottweiler puppies which have become small ponies and eat a lot!

(18,656 posts)In my zip they use Fedex, if that matters.

(16,334 posts)Do you use autoship or just order when you need it?
Sanity Claws
(21,851 posts)I have found them reliable. I order when I need it. No autoship because I vary what I order.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)Makes me less concerned. Guess I could try and stop if I have issues.
Thanks!

(31,177 posts)looks like they don't carry it.

(16,334 posts)but looks like they may not carry it. Still, it's worth calling them. I didn't know about this store so thanks!

(9,272 posts)When my cat Jake was still with us he needed a prescription diet. You can vary the automatic delivery at any time or just order as needed. Way cheaper than buying the food at the vet.
When Jake went to the Bridge I had a 17-lb bag of the food, unopened and still in the box. I called Chewy to ask how to return it and they said keep the food and donate it to a shelter, AND they gave me the $$ back.
We now have 2 healthy kittens who eat Purina One Kitten and Sheba wet food which I get at the grocery store (Giant).

(16,334 posts)I still hope to find something local. Or hell, I may switch their food. They are still puppies so they have a long way to go.

Phentex
(16,334 posts)claims they have one day shipping so we'll see.
jtuck004
(15,882 posts)of deliveries, both to the door and to the porch. I have never had a problem, but I monitor it, schedule deliveries if I have to.
I work here, and we have several dogs, so it helps me limit my time away.
Most places have to be fairly efficient these days to survive, so your odds of a good experience are decent.

(17,276 posts)It's cheaper and easier. You do have to buy large amounts to get the free shipping (spend $49 or more) but I have three cats.
Delivery is very fast, and everything comes packaged very well.
Another feature I like is that on the site you can see all the ingredients and nutritional values. Beats squinting at the tiny lettering on the cans at the store!
Sheba is cheaper, Fancy Feast is cheaper, and even Friskies is cheaper than my local discount grocery.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)said it was one day shipping. If I can figure out how long they'll be on this and about how much they go through, I may set up auto ship.

(9,838 posts)if they are in your area, but they carry a wide variety and are good about keeping their supplies stocked.
I also buy cat litter there. We use pine pellets for our 6 litter boxes. Their "equine bedding" comes in 40 lb. bags for $6.49 for the same thing we were buying as Feline Pine at $9.99 for 20 lbs.

(15,223 posts)It seems to be a good middle-of-the-road product.
Contrary to your experience, however, I find that my local stores don't carry enough inventory. I order it online and have it shipped to the store for pickup. Shipping is free for that.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)but then again, I had NO idea they sold pet products. Thanks for the tip! If I see one, I will stop in.

(15,223 posts)I order the majority of the canned food for our cat rescue through Chewy. I don't do autoship, but I like their function of being able to do "quick reorders" because we basically use the same amount/type per month. Love the free shipping.
I had one issue with a shipment with them when they were using UPS (they use Fed Ex now). The cans of food arrived damaged. Chewy immediately replaced them.
I find some things cheaper occasionally, but overall, their prices are comparable.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)I started with one 33 lb bag. Delivery person will love that.

(15,223 posts)Not!!
He complains every time. Always comments about that "dog food again". (It's actually cat food, but he doesn't need to know). I have a feeling he doesn't like animals.
But, oh well. I'm going to order what I'm going to order, and he will just have to deal.

(24,767 posts)where I go to pick up my cat food once a month. It's designed to provide 2 weeks of cat food.
Otherwise, I go to my local grocery store because my cats like only Friskies.

(17,276 posts)Until recently I have been feeding it to my cats. I still do, every other can. But am adding some brands now that list some real meat (poultry, beef) as their first ingredient. It has helped my 13 year old look and act healthier. By-products are okay but they should also get muscle meat some of the time. In other words, the whole animal.

Phentex
(16,334 posts)but dang it! With our first dog, I bought from the vet. Well, they had odd hours and odd buying practices. And when your 120 pound dog needs food, you can't just wait until the food is in stock.
This little local store told me they kept the food in stock but apparently they aren't going to be reliable. When the pups get older, I may switch to a more readily available food.
Glad you have some options.
meow2u3
(24,767 posts)They sell premium food like Royal Canin, Nutro Max, Science Diet, Blue Wilderness, and the like. All those foods are beyond my price range.
They also sell decent commercial food like Purina ONE, Fancy Feast (my cats like that, but I only get it for them either for a treat or from the animal food bank), even the Purely Fancy Feast--with real meat!
I don't need to buy my cat food online, except if I'm snowed in during the winter, which is highly improbable.

(14,487 posts)I have called for help with an order twice, and both times, the rep was so nice, asking how my kitty was, what his name is, etc. When I said he was sick, and that was why I was ordering the special food, the rep truly sounded concerned. I swear I felt like I was speaking with an old friend! It is so refreshing to to get such great service in this day and age!

(4,033 posts)We LOVE them! Super fast shipping, competitive prices. Never, ever have had a problem with them. They give you a small discount if you sign up for their scheduled shipment - that is, you say 'send me this order every 'x' days. (We have 5 dogs so figuring how often to ship just doesn't work for us, but does for lots of people).
I've never had a problem with them, but have heard anecdotal stories of their Customer Service being fantastic. An on-line friend had to call them and change her auto-ship order after losing one of her dogs. The rep was very sympathetic and a few days later a sympathy bouquet showed up, along with a card signed by most of the staff. I've have also heard a couple of stories that, on the extremely rare occasions when they don't ship the correct order, their response is to immediately ship a corrected order, but tell the customer to not bother trying to return the incorrect shipment, but to try and find someone who can use it.
Give them a shot.
P.S. I'm just a very satisfied customer. I have NO affiliation or other connection with Chewy.
