the good news is bigger dogs can handle it but not without pain. My baby/puppy got bit last summer but he's a big dog mix so he was able to pull through (at 26 pounds at the time). Tiny dogs don't fare so well. I think Boog is a bigger breed.

------ OP-----

"This morning my wife kept commenting on how obsessive the boog is acting .sniffing around an old barn across the road digging at the ground around 0845 then he would come flying thru lower field then thru yard and bark at my wife and are niece. He would go spaz if are niece stepped into the yard turns out the boog was doing his lassie. Kid I love you do not go into the yard there is danger, so my son the boog and I walk down this old barn it's good distance from house and yard sure enough it is polluted with copperheads ,getting close I swear I could smell that musky cucumber smell from my youth growing up in Appalachia that they have I told my boy one eye on the ground and one where your stepping and you follow me you step where I step he had the 22 pistol with snake shot I had 12 gauge semi he asked wanna shoot them I said no , we never had problem on are property. And it is quarter mile away at least ,The people that lived there years ago passed ,and they left it to there children. And the kids moved away years ago it's overgrown house is falling into disrepair as is the out buildings. So I'll just keep lower gate shut to keep the boog fenced in he likes to go and play in the creek , But I told boog you are awesome dog protecting your niece. I love all our dogs but boog holds special place in my heart. "
