Dog placed on death row because he is 'too energetic' now saving flooding victims

Rocket the border collie is helping with search and rescue
Lydia Smith 6 hours ago

A rescue dog who faced being put down for being too energetic is now helping rescue flood victims in Texas.

Rocket the border collie is assisting with search and rescue missions with California’s Windsor Fire Protection District, which is supporting relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The dog was taken to Texas by his handler Mike Stornetta.

I have a BC rescued at a year old who is 12. Also a Sheltie/Aussie mix rescued at maybe a year as well who we got 2 years later. They have been controlled low energy dogs when compared to the BC puppy my daughter got from a breeder last year. I can see why someone who didn't know the breed would have problems. Still does excuse not finding a new home for the family member.

I wish more people would train more dogs in every city in the nation. Some places use inmates in prisons to train service dogs for people. All of those types of programs are a win for dogs and a win for people.

i really wish more people, including rescues, appreciated the true nature of dogs. dogs want to work. dogs need to work.
but try going to a shelter and telling them you want a dog for a job. i have been fishing for a ratter, and i get to talk to the hand w rescues.
i am a very experienced dog owner, responsible, good trainer, asking for the dog that wont make a good couch ornament. they dont want to talk to me.
it's a damn shame.

i am going to go to a shelter i know of that rescues a lot of terrier type dogs, and play dumb so i can rescue a dog.

Energy is what they are. They need major exercise and mental stimulus. The problem is with the handler. He probably has a genius BC who can think faster than he can.
