Updated 2:49 am, Saturday, June 30, 2018
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) After 30 hours of effort, volunteers were able to rescue a 7-week-old deaf puppy that fell down a 50-foot (15-meter) crevice behind a house in Alabama.
Volunteers erupted in cheers as the pup named Toffee was pulled out of the narrow hole around midnight Saturday with the help of a snare and some food.
Toffee fell into the inches-wide space around 5 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters, cave rescue crews and plumbers joined the rescue effort, lowering nets, snares and food to try to retrieve Toffee.
"Y'all this is a miracle," Karen Smith, the puppy's foster mother, told reporters. Video footage showed the white puppy wagging her tail as Smith cuddled her.

POSTED 3:50 PM, JUNE 30, 2018, BY CNN WIRE
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WHNT) Just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, rescue crews were able to pull a 7-week-old puppy named Toffee from a hole in a yard on Lenlock Drive. The deaf puppy had been in the hole since 5 p.m. Thursday. The puppys story captivated people around the country and the world.
I still cant believe shes really out and shes right here and Im holding her, said Toffees foster owner, Karen Smith, as she held the puppy close.
This is a miracle. There were so many people sending me texts Im just so thankful to every person that came, that brought food, that brought generators and lights and, I mean, its been an amazing outpouring of kindness and sweetness, she continued.
. . .
The rescue happened in part thanks to volunteers from the Paint Rock Fire Department. Chief Finis Johnson saw the story on WHNT News 19 and called the newsroom to ask how they could help. The team used a snare to get out the puppy.
