Related: About this forumUpdate on Elmo and Stitch--sad news--and good news
I had posted about the kitties who were living with my estranged husband and needing a new home because he was no longer able to take care of them. Then my husband died December 13th.

They were boarding for awhile, and then my oldest son and his partner arranged to foster them. They already have a single cat--who had previously expressed her displeasure at sharing the house with Elmo and Stitch--and a dog.
Last night Stitch started violently vomiting. They took him to the emergency vet and then back this morning to the regular vet. Not good news. He hadn't been eating, lost a lot of weight, stopped using the litter box, and they found masses in his stomach and lungs. The decision was made to release him from his suffering.
Stitch was the original cool cat. He had the most gorgeous green eyes. He was totally not bothered by Snowy--my rescue dog-- when he came to live with us in June 2017. I know his brother, Elmo, is going to miss him.
Rest in peace, Stitch.
And the good news now is that my son and his partner have been smitten with Elmo. They are now committed to letting their kitty, Tulip, figure out that Elmo could be a fun companion, and are prepared to let the two kitties take their time getting used to each other.
I had been thinking about taking Elmo since he gets along with Snowy. But I think in the long run he'll be happier in a home with another kitty, even if it takes Tulip some time to get used to him

(31,386 posts)even though I'm allergic to cats. As long as there was someone else in the house to pet them (because I have to wash my hands every time I touch a kitty) I got along ok. If Tulip--my son's cat--would just get along with Elmo, I think they'd keep him.
It's all so sad. I've been bawling all day.

(18,643 posts)existing older cat issues w/younger newer ones once the 'buffer' cat passed away and she was beside herself. I suggested the pheromones (Feliway) and it has helped a lot.
