Related: About this forumI bought the VERY LAST BAG of dry cat food at Big Lot's, this morning
I had a 20% off coupon and wanted to buy a couple bags of 9-Lives for the ferals. Lucky to get the one because normally that shelf is fully stocked! There was no other dry food and only a couple packets of the fancy pouch food.
It just seems like a good plan to stock up on kitten food (which I've been doing) and food for the ferals, just in case of bad weather or even more shortages. Fortunately there is still food in the bag I bought, earlier this month so they will be good for a while.
I do try to shop sales, for their food, but if the we get bad snow, this Winter, I'm definitely going to start using Chewy.

(9,269 posts)Couple times Ive gotten emails that they were out of stock of one of my autoship foods, but I always got it anyway, and on time. My boys have to be on urinary food now (after trying others they like Iams dry, and Pro-Plan wet) which they dont carry where I do my grocery shopping and Im too lazy to make a separate trip to PetSmart.

(11,033 posts)Now it's closer to a week. It can be frustrating, but we're adjusting our orders to accomodate the delays. I've noticed them running short on some stuff we order regularly as well. But it does come back in stock fairly quickly.

(26,276 posts)I live right in a major retail district so there are LOTS of pet food options, if I take the time to check them out. I buy the feral's food at Walmart because I can get a big can of wet food for just over $1. I mix it with the dry, in the mornings.
As long as I can get out and about, I'll keep buying off of the shelves, but I should check them out for some of their other items.

(9,269 posts)You want to find the lowest price possible, and they probably dont eat the fancy gourmet or specialty foods that can be hard to find in the store. Around here we have a Tractor Supply store which also has large bags of pet foods.

(21,849 posts)I recently bought from PetSmart because they had something that Chewy did not. I had to wait a week for delivery, instead of the 2 days or so for Chewy. Keep that in mind if you can't find stuff at Chewy.

(23,123 posts)It's weird, I went to one of the 2 major grocery stores and they were out - totally out - of dry cat food and had just a few types of wet cat food, but all meat types which my cat won't eat. Boo!! I went to the 2nd one and they had FULL shelves of the dry food and the wet food was only 1/2 filled, still so much better than the other one. Even Chewy is out of a lot of food!
Since one of the cat has to eat the prescribed diet food or could die, I now keep an extra case of it on hand at all times.
I should get my next Chewy shipment today or tomorrow and hope all the food comes so I don't have to worry about this for a month!

(4,609 posts)Its so nice to have those 35 lb buckets of litter dropped off at the door and not have to lug them around the store and to and from the car.

(14,643 posts)Its made in Wisconsin. Chewy is great, but they do frequently run out of stock. Fromm is a good alternative.

(57,073 posts)To save going into Tractor Supply. Trying to avoid covid exposure as much as possible.
I doubled up on dog food, given the likelihood of shortages due to the spread of covid.
Plus, why not buy for the same price & have them drop it on my porch?
I love Chewy!

(26,276 posts)I think it's a 35 lb bag for about $19 but there's a smaller bag that is actually priced better per pound.
There's a Family Farm and Home store by me. I should check out their cat food, for the ferals. I want to make sure they are well fed, over the Winter. Last Winter I just had Skittish so it was pretty easy. It wasn't until Spring that Mittens, Scooter and Spooky showed up. And who knows if more are strolling through, at night.

(57,073 posts)My ferals seem to like the dry doog food. So that's what they often eat, interspersed with cans of tuna & wet kitty food.

(16,437 posts)Willow is on wet food exclusively now, because of her temperamental tummy. The only thing I've found that consistently agrees with her is Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly wet food. Those cans are heavy to lug around, and require more trips to keep stocked up if I buy them in the store. Chewy has been a lifesaver since she's been on this regimen.

(26,276 posts)I'm sure he's eating elsewhere because he's pretty robust. However, when he shows up here, he won't come near the food blows if the moms are eating. He hangs WAYYYYY back.
