Related: About this forumGreat. Now Madoc has turned into a potato chip thief!
I forgot to put the bag someplace safe for about 30 seconds and he was on it like a lion on a gazelle. If I try to eat some, I have to be up and walking the whole time because otherwise he's mugging me for them.
I know the salt isn't good for him.
Perhaps I should count my lucky stars that Gryff doesn't seem too interested anything I'm eating. At least not YET. I'll have to lock myself in a separate room, just to eat.
And now he's quiet. Far too quiet. I'd better go see if he's figured out how to open the microwave.

(57,073 posts)I hope Madoc doesn't figure out how to ooen cabinets & fridge. Not sure if you have child-proof cabinets, but bags of chips can be deadly because they get in them & can't get out. For this reason, I always slit my empty bags before putting in trash.

(26,262 posts)Of course, he's already slit this particular bag open. With his CLAWS!
The "eazy-open" multi razor approach?
Yes, the bags are a huge problem. I've seen psa's warning pet owners & nature livers to slit them. Maybe Madoc can find a part-time job doing this?

Mine is 6 years old now and has mellowed a bit, but she used to sneak potato chips, muffins, cookies, anything that I was eating.

(7 posts)I had a cat get into chips before. It isn't just the salt, but the oil. It can damage their liver.

(26,262 posts)I've never had a cat who was so food aggressive, before. I've never been one to give any pet table scraps or food from my plate, either.
Hopefully he will eventually ease off. Meanwhile, I just have to be proactive on keeping things locked up and out of his reach.

(21,447 posts)She is not so bad about it now, but she was 5 years old before she let up on grabbing food. Hang in there.

(12,463 posts)But if I have a wad of dip on it its a nice carb pick me up if my sugar feels a little low.
I watch my ass regarding potato chips I tell myself if I eat more than I allow myself to eat,
They'll be cutting my feet off from complications of diabeties.
So that thought keeps me able to strictly regulate carby foods.

(12,463 posts)Doors, some boxes with hinged lids that don't lock shut or that are unlocked.
He goes in every room in my apartment including the laundry room and shutting the door is futile.
If I shut the bathroom door he opens it and waltzes right in .
He can climb onto the very top of the cabinets right near the ceiling.
And yes he can open cabinets .
His treats and all are on the upper shelves so he cant reach it.
Whats weird is he harms nothing when he explores the apartment. Does not knock or drag anything out.everything is in its place .
The only way I know he has been up on the counter poking in the cabinets is he leaves paw marks on my black stove.
And occasionally he leaves the cabinet door open. He knows how to close them too.
He does not know how to open the microwave ....yet .

(26,262 posts)I've moved everything on the mantel to against the wall because there's a window at the end of it, and the LOVE to jump up there, look outside and then take a stroll.
The only other thing they tend to knock down are framed photos of family members.
And, right now I'm storing the treats on top of the refrigerator, but I fully accept that will soon no longer be a safe zone. I have a plastic jar that should hold them, just fine. Knowing Madoc and Gryff, when they want a treat they will just roll the jar to where ever I am.

(21,447 posts)when she was 4 months old. Her favorite game then was to drag out the lids to my storage containers and flip them around the floor like giant tiddly winks.
I put masking tape over the doors, but she quickly figured that out and ripped the tape off.
A lot of that is kitten exploration. Once they get completely familiar with everything in the home over and over, it's not so adventurous any more for them.
Her food is in the cupboard over the stove hood because the slanted hood prevents her from getting to it.
She likes to sit on the fridge or on the cupboards just under the ceiling and watch me when I'm cooking.
