Just in the last several days, after weeks of patient TLC, Kitty is almost her old self.
She's sleeping at my feet during the night instead of hiding under the bed. Allowing me to groom her. Not fearful.
Patience does pay off. I'm so happy.

(34,111 posts)that even my big, tough rescue dogs can lose it when they get frightened. My big boy bit me the other day taking a nice little chunk out of my arm. He would not let my brother in the house, excited not wary, and I held him back by his collar and for the first time ever he growled and bit me. He is the biggest sweetie ever, I was more stunned than angry. I will forgive him many things I would not others because his story was pretty awful. He sleeps cuddled up with me and is always by my side and loves me to distraction but now and again something clicks and he might bite but mostly he growls.
It sure does take a lot of time to get them to trust and such a short time to lose it.
I am so glad your patience has paid off. Makes me smile as I sit here and look at my bunch. A bunch of rag, tag unwanted beasts that have more love than they could ever imagine and they do give it back.

(34,111 posts)Lots of experience. We always had some pure bred breeds because we wanted to experience them but then there were always "thrown aways" that became loved and important family members. **Standard Poodles are the best dogs ever!!!** I fell for ours but now that they are gone and we are older it is older rescues for us. LOVE watching them get comfy and begin to accept love and care. It helps that I have a big farm and they go on long walks around it every day.
