Pets Lost Or Abandoned During The War In Ukraine Find Shelter, New Homes - Radio Free Europe

Thousands of domestic dogs and cats have been lost or abandoned since Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24. One of the shelters where animals are taken from war zones is in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, where 150 dogs and almost 200 cats are currently being looked after. 04/26/2022.

The little long haired Chihuahua at the beginning of this video looks a lot like my own baby.

She was like a daughter to me. I saw two women carrying their little dogs since they were their babies and they left their personal belongings behind and took their babies with them instead. I saw a video about a month ago where the Russians killed a lot of dogs and there was a big pile of their bodies. I didn't know I could hate Putin any more than I already did but I found out there is a whole new level of hate inside of me.

He just turned 16 last month, though he's in good health, but I can't imagine ever leaving him - I adopted him in 2006 at five months old.

and she was very, very sensitive and attached to me. If either of us left the other we'd both be basket cases as a result. I am still a depressed mess. I'm glad you're able to spend time with your baby and appreciate every minute. Unconditional love can't be beat!

He's the only puppy I've had, other than the dog I grew up with. Before my Jack, I've adopted senior dogs - and I've never been disappointed. Two of my dogs lived past 18 and I'm counting on Jack being with me at least as long...

And Crying here.

Lost 2 babies/2 Labs in the last 2 years. Before I open this thread I was already crying.

Dogs are our children, our family. It's difficult to explain to anyone who has never had a deep emotional bond with an intelligent dog.

I feel so sorry for these Ukrainian people, having to leave their dear pets.

Thanks to everyone in this thread.

Other than the dog I grew up with and the dog I have now, I've adopted older dogs and have never been disappointed. And my "puppy" who I adopted in 2006 just had his 16th birthday. I don't know what I'd do without him. My Dad was an "animal person" and taught me to love animals - and that included my turtle, my mouse (who I named after FDR) and my rat (who I rescued from the Psych lab in college)...
