Related: About this forumSo, here's the new batch of fuzzball sweetness.
The kittens are at or slightly over the 3 week mark. Another week (barring anything necessitating an earlier intervention) and they will begin their socialization.

(26,269 posts)I was going to wait until I had them in the house, but I figured a little distraction is probably needed, right about now.

(26,269 posts)And it's so much fun to watch them grow and learn. I think the trick is to be gentle with them. They can rough house with each other but they get nothing but nurturing and affection from me.
Raising Madoc from the time he was 4 weeks old has been an adventure. And getting Gryff when he was 4 months old, having NO idea of what his life had been like, that was a leap of faith. Fortunately, he's turned into the most affectionate cat I've ever known.
I guess at this later stage of life, I finally found my true calling.

(26,269 posts)The kittens I took in last year were at about 4 weeks. The vet said that's the ideal time to rescue them - much easier to move them past any feral tendencies. I did have to put up with a bit of hissing and spitting, but only for a day or two.
These sweeties just stare up at me, or walk towards me when I talk to them.
I've got everything I need, so now it's just a waiting game.

They are so cute!

(26,269 posts)But the news has been so depressing, I decided to let the proverbial kittens out of the bag early to give people some sort of respite from the horrible state of things. Mother Nature and Spooky had perfect timing.
These are Madoc's siblings. I had moved a shelter crate to, hopefully, lure the cats away from my cat hating neighbor's yard. The very day I moved it, and went to buy new bedding, I came home to find Spooky with very recently born kittens.
So, I'm ready, willing and able to socialize another litter. Hopefully I'll have as much luck finding good homes for the gray and the two black ones as I did for Cinder and Smoke.

(86,649 posts)They will keep you busy for a spell. I'm considering looking at getting one or two but my place is kind of small and there's no safe outdoor space so maybe not.
It's getting time to go visit Mikey again, I really miss him.

Last night at foster clinic, one of our foster pet parents brought in a mom and kittens that I had helped welcome into the stray jail 2 weeks ago. We usually try to get those into foster homes ASAP and Mittens, now renamed Fossie, was no exception. She was a community cat and is a great mom, still a tiny bit on the standoffish side but will cuddle on her terms. Foster mom is working on socializing her. The kittens are adorable, now pushing 5 weeks and learning to eat kitten food. Foster mom was asking about one who hadn't got the hang of drinking water out of a dish yet and would blow bubbles in it and was this normal. I assured her that it was and she would definitely learn, but if she didn't, to ask the vet to check in a week or two for a cleft palate.
