TAFT CAUSES HOTEL DELUGE (caps in original at NY Times)

Tidal Wave from His Bathtub Floods Bankers in Dining Room.

CAPE MAY, N.J., June 18. — Ex-President Taft, who came here yesterday as the guest of the Pennsylvania Bankers' Association, took a bath in his apartments in the Hotel Cape May. He failed properly to consider the size of the average seashore hotel bathtub, however, with the result that when he got into the tub the water overflowed and trickled down upon the heads of the guests in the dining room.

he goes to the beach there? Some places are quite old! We stayed at one, the Chalfonte, an old grand white clapboard wood giant near the beach. Like c. 1905! huge boarding house, large shared dining hall but charming, especially the ocean.
Only 'room' left was down the hall from the kitchen-pretty loud with swinging louvered doors (no a/c or locks) for breezes, like a saloon.

Wow, just checked and the Chalfonte is now an historic hotel and totally renovated, beautiful-

*Pres. TAFT was actually supposed to be a very nice man, educated, golfer, pleasant (more than can be said for Christie!) Also he was a decent Supreme Court Judge later I think. While in the WH there were special strong handrails installed for the staircases for him to use going up the stairs.

*You've heard the one how Taft went horseback riding one morning. He later wired an official, 'Had a fine ride this morning, feel great'. The official wrote back, 'How's the horse?'.
