Ohio judge favors camera speeding ticket refunds

Associated Press= CINCINNATI (AP) — A judge in southwest Ohio says a Cincinnati-area village should refund speeding tickets from traffic cameras, but it can wait until after its appeal of class action-status is resolved.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman (ROOHL'-muhn) ruled Thursday that Elmwood Place should pay back fines and fees totaling nearly $1.8 million. He says the village is also liable for attorney fees.

But he said he won't make a final order until the village's appeal of his approval of class-action status for thousands of ticketed motorists is decided.

A judge ruling against the police and government revenue collections will always be news, even if it is over ruled by a higher court or legislated over. There is always an upset quarter when a judge rules for equity, or with justice over power.

Site I ran across addressing cameras. It addresses speed cameras and red light cameras. It lists a lot of stories about destruction of the cameras. A lot in Europe and some in the US.

3. In Canada we had the camera recording system also maybe twenty years ago

And wouldn't you believe it, it was cancelled as many of the offending drivers were lawyers, judges and police (according to one newspaper report wish I wish I had kept). The reasoning behind scrapping the program was that it was an "invasion of privacy". Many were challenging the photograph results (saving the system millions in court costs in all honesty).
