Seattle Gun Buy Back gets turned into Gun Show.

http://dcxposed.com/2013/01/27/seattle-gun-buyback-gets-jacked-turns-into-a-damn-gun-show-lol/

Police officers in Seattle, Washington held their first gun buyback program in 20 years this weekend, underneath interstate 5, and soon found that private gun collectors were working the large crowd as little makeshift gun shows began dotting the parking lot and sidewalks. Some even had “cash for guns” signs prominently displayed.

Police stood in awe as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line for the buyback program.

People that had arrived to trade in their weapons for $100 or $200 BuyBack gift cards($100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and $200 for assault weapons) soon realized that gun collectors were there and paying top dollar for collectible firearms. So, as the line for the chump cards got longer and longer people began to jump ship and head over to the dealers.

But the BuyBack wasn’t a bust. On the contrary – their $80,000 supply of gift cards didn’t last but 2 hours, and by 11:00 am they began attempting to issue IOU’s at which point the entire crowd responded by turning and marching toward the gun dealers, forcing the police officers to pack it up for the day.

So someone shows us expecting to get $100 or $200 in gift cards, and walks away with $500-$2000 in cash.

If the police never owned the firearms, couldn't they just call it a "turn-in" or an "exchange" or something?

Since it is a restricted item, the police have it while the military is trying to figure out how they lost it.

At least the one in California didn't pay the turn-in anything for the two rocket launchers they got, and those things are surplused all the time. They are single-use, and empty. The tube won't withstand reloading, so they are decorative only.

If they were LIVE, then the military would give a shit.

You are correct about the usual, single-shot, anti-tank rockets. This one was a Stinger-type thing. Not that the media normally gets it right, but it is being reported as a restricted item, probably due to the guidance stuff attached to the tube.

That would be a different issue then, sure.

Not wise to attract the attention of military logistics/beancounters.

... to know what the people were initially willing to unload for "gift cards" that were worth buying. Typical voluntary "buy-backs" that I've read about usually turn up nothing but rusty Saturday Night Specials or grand-dad's Fudd Gun.

... then maybe you don't know what you have.

grand-dad's Fudd Gun could be a fairly valueable side-by-side shotgun with exposed hammers. That could be worth a lot more than $100 or $200.

If you know you have a rusty Saturday Night Special, then, yeah, sell it to the cops for a gift card.

people out of a fair price for their assets, and others decide to take advantage of it....Seems to be fair to me, why the complaining?
