Repuke Mayor gets utterly pwned by a Democrat state senator, on TV.

No surprise how the republican mayor resorts to name calling and distortion, even tho the law, is right in front of them on the desk. He really gets mighty wound up, and gets belligerent right there, on the TV...

Very humorous to see him get handed his ass to him on a platter by a Democrat!

And our friend, the Senator, was absolutely calm and collected and was working with the facts.

Pretty funny.

the republican mayor is in the position of opposing the nra; whereas, the Democratic Senator is supporting the nra. (Or at least that what the mayor said).

I heard the mayor making NRA accusations but I don't have a clue if there's a whit of reality to it.

Accusing the Dem of NRA ties would be just the sort of thing one might do to try to discredit them.

From what I understand of the bill, it was a sensible thing and not something I think the NRA would support, but I'm not sure about that.

I have trouble believing anyone that argues the law says something and can't argue against what is written in the law.

The mayor doesn't want any home rule taken away. It isn't about guns, it is about power. According to the You Tube comments, the "news" guy generally supports stricter laws, but was intellectually honest to point out that the law says.
I generally support preemption laws, because one shouldn't have to learn trivial (until you violate it) rules in each county. Florida used to be like that. One county would require unloaded and locked in case, the next county wouldn't and most people would have no way of knowing what the law is becoming a paper "criminal".

The same laws apply in every county and city.

But ... of course we still have some towns trying to pass their own, more restrictive laws.

If a call from the head of the state police and their representatives don't solve the problem, a very expensive lawsuit will.

county-to-county. Most of that was cleaned up when both -- BaDaBOOM! -- the Texas Civil Liberties Union AND the Texas State Rifle Association joined forces to get passed in 2006 uniform laws for transporting arms over county lines. Too many goose hunters getting arrested in Harris Co. (Houston) for having shotguns flopped on the backseat, when such was okay in 'Possum Breath Co.
