Lost gun store fight costs Chicago taxpayers nearly (another) $1 million

http://politics.suntimes.com/article/chicago/lost-gun-store-fight-costs-chicago-taxpayers-nearly-1-million/thu-07032014-1110pm

Gun-rights advocates have delivered a one-two punch to the city of Chicago.

The first blow came on Jan. 6 when a federal judge ruled the city’s longtime ban on gun stores was unconstitutional.

On Thursday, the second blow landed when the judge approved $940,000 in legal fees that the city must pay to the attorneys who challenged the ban. Charles J. Cooper, one of those plaintiffs’ attorneys, charged $975 an hour for his work.

Cooper, whose law firm Cooper & Kirk is based in Washington, is also looking for a big payout from the state. He submitted a $618,000 bill for work he and other plaintiffs’ attorneys performed in a gun-rights lawsuit against Attorney General Lisa Madigan. <snip>

The total for legal fees for losing McDonald and Ezell with this are over $3 million so far. That money could have hired a lot of cops the city needs and might have even let Rahm keep a school or two open.

But now they are doing it all over again by "allowing" a gun store in .05% of the city with excessive restrictions to make it unprofitable. Back to court again and more money to be paid to the NSSF, ISRA and NRA. I wonder ot Wane will send Rahm a nice T-shirt as a thank you present?

will ever figure out that they work for the people and not the other way around? If they do, maybe they will stop trying deny basic civil rights to the people.

Chicago could have done many other good things with the money now going to the lawyers.

largely because of criminals who cannot legally own firearms but use them in the commission of crimes? Generally speaking, it's not the legal gun owners causing the problem, it is the criminals who are using them as part of their "business model".

... be sure to keep the costs resulting from legal FOID and CCW card carrying Illinois gun owners from the gang banger violence. Or are you one of those ignorant people that just conflates the two for impact?

Then contribute .01% of that amount to Brady, Bloomberg or DU.
