that needs a visit from some nice federal people.

Nice you trying to lump anyone that owns a gun and supports RKBA with the most extreme nutcases. Why would you think that way?

Nor do I lump gun all owners with RKBA absolutists. I know many gun owners who are opposed to virtually any kind of public carry. Most gun owners are responsible members of society, who don't feel the need to hump their guns everywhere they go.
Most gun owners I know, call their guns "guns", not "Personal Protection Devices", "Personal Safety Devices", or other such ridiculous euphemisms, in an effort to appear rational.
Most gun owners don't teach their little kids that guns are cool and shooting them is all part of family fun. They teach their kids to respect firearms for what they are, extremely dangerous, yet useful tools, to be used for hunting, sport and, in the most extreme circumstances, self defense. They are not "fun" things. YMMV

So, my question to you is "Why would you distort what I said?"

If "sport" is not "fun," then what is it?

Ask some S. American soccer players if it is fun

So your definition of "sport" is exemplified by professional athletics and precludes fun? I think you'll find that lexicographers and most of the rest of the English-speaking world disagree with you.

NOUN

1An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment:
'team sports such as soccer and rugby'
[MASS NOUN]: 'I used to play a lot of sport.'
(as modifier sports) 'a sports centre'
MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES
SYNONYMS
1.1 (sports) British An occasion on which people compete in various athletic activities:
'I won the 200 metres in the school sports.'
1.2 [MASS NOUN, USUALLY WITH ADJECTIVE] Success or pleasure derived from an activity such as hunting or fishing:
'I have heard there is good sport to be had in Buttermere.'
MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES
1.3 [MASS NOUN] DATED Entertainment; fun:
'It was considered great sport to catch him out.'

So, am I correct in thinking you consider teaching little kids that guns are cool fun things is good parenting? If so, we live in very different worlds.

Doubling down, eh? Should skeet-shooting parents not teach their children that skeet-shooting is good fun? Are they bad parents if they do? If you think so, then yes, we do live in two different worlds.

The media are the ones that teach kids that guns are "cool." It falls to parents to teach them that there is such a thing as safe, responsible gun use that is ... wait for ... fun.

I'm talking about assholes who teach their kids that handguns are cool. Guys who can't wait to buy their next handgun, so they can strap it on to show their kids how to best navigate the world. "Look at Mommy and Daddy's PSD's kids. When you're old enough we'll teach you too how to double tap. Won't that be fun?"

You remember -- that thing you don't think is "fun."

I know that you think people should not have the right to arm themselves for their own defense. Somehow you seem to have smeared that attitude over into a disdain anything to do with the recreational use of firearms.

Skeet is OK but handguns are bad? What about cowboy action shooting? Olympic free pistol? Conventional (Bullseye) pistol? IDPA?

Less showy and more shooter...not to mention much more progressive.

Stories like this remind me why I don't associate with groups of any kind. They tend to draw the fringe nutbags, doesn't matter if you're talking about a local road bike "club", Jeep club, or the local cheer leading squad.

Shooting is best left as a family experience where those shooting know and trust one another not to do dumb things. Take my fabulous family for instance. Even the youngest of the group (9yo son) knows and follows the rules. Knows and understands the intimate workings of each of our firearm types. That's the kind of folks you want to associate with. Thus I've found it best that the family that shoots together, should shoot alone.

We've been on a fishing and biking kick lately so we haven't really been to the range that much this year so far (maybe once every few weeks) so we haven't spent that much family time at the range. I have started reloading after years of procrastinating so when we do finally get back to the range on a regular basis we'll be able to burn through ammo like never before.
