shot and killed by an off duty officer while chasing an armed robbery suspect

"As the suspect fled he was confronted by three people - two off-duty law enforcement officers and a retired law enforcement officer, officials said John Capano, a 23-year veteran with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also killed.....it appeared that Capono shot the suspect....Capano himself was then shot and killed by an off duty officer." http://abcnews.go.com/US/ny-pharmacy-shootout-leaves-suspect-atf-agent-dead/story?id=15267287#.Tv_QZvKjKuI

See this is why we need more guns on the streets, it makes it harder for REAL law enforcement. Imagine this same scenario in Arizona or say Texas, even Florida. Everyone whipping out guns and busting caps in everyone's ass. Yea NRA, this is what more guns on the street does, it kills innocent people.

1. Why do we need to imagine it? How often does it *actually* happen in

Arizona, or Texas, or even Florida?

As far as I can tell, all of the 'good guys' here were off-duty LEOs; no non-LE firearms carriers at all. And yet, you don't argue that off-duty LEOs - the people who allegedly erred - shouldn't carry, you claim that this shows that other people shouldn't. And you ask us to imagine the hypothetical bloodshed in more permissive states, despite the recorded lack of actual bloodshed in those places. That, Mr. Harris, is extremely flaccid reasoning on your part...

Black plainclothes vice cop subduing a suspect shot by white responding officer. http://hamptonroads.com/node/222821

Cops are dangerous! You're probably better off providing your own protection.

9. This is rather common with off-duty cops.

The usual problem is that the non-uniformed cop fails to follow the orders of the uniformed cops (usually he is arguing that his IS a cop) and gets shot for pointing a gun at the uniformed cops.

This example is a real stretch. I know its all you have these days, but really, try harder.

Everyone involved except the first shooting victim, based on your post, was either a LEO or a BATFE agent.

Last time I checked the NRA wasn't fighting to allow LEO to carry weapons. Or are you arguing to take guns away from cops now too?

Hate the NRA so much you can't even read your own post before commenting?

It is a risk to pursue armed criminals whether you are a non-leo licensed carrier of a firearm, off-duty police, retired ATF or even a uniformed officer.

He chose to carry, he chose to pursue, and he was caught in friendly fire. That's the risk of putting yourself out there.

"In March, an off-duty Metropolitan Transportation Authority police authority officer shot a Nassau County police officer who was in plainclothes and carrying a rifle. Both men were responding to a crime scene in the town of Massapequa Park.

In May, a New York Police Department officer shot and killed an off-duty colleague who was carrying a gun while chasing a suspected car thief in East Harlem.

In 2008, Westchester County police officers killed an off-duty officer from the New York suburb of Mount Vernon, N.Y. as he was intervening in a fight."

What can we do to stop all of these police from being so eager to shoot somebody?

So what's the bullshit about "REAL law enforcement"? This isn't a story about citizen vigilantes. Am I missing something folks? Maybe I'm still a little foggy from NYE.

Rather than your clumsy attempt at building strawmen, perhaps all police should bein uniform at all times. That way there's less confusion over who's who.

The man who was accidentally shot and killed was an off-duty ATF agent. It even says so in the article title. He would have had a gun anyways, and was chasing a robber like any police officer would.

...distortion, bad facts, gut-bucket statistics, fabrication, spam, and confusion.

Just a reminder of the standard set by gun-banners:

"Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons." -- Josh Sugarmann, Violence Policy Center

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2080890/John-Capano-Off-duty-ATF-officer-shot-dead-trying-stop-robbery.html

"Adding to the heartbreak over the death of ATF agent John Capano, who was shot while trying to stop a robbery in progress at a Long Island pharmacy, his father revealed that the reason why he was in the drugstore in the first place was to do his old man a favor and pick up his cancer medication."
