Why? Why Aurora, Ft. Hood, Gabby Giffords, VA Tech

Will it ever stop? Not at the rate we’re going. Will it stop with absolutist arguments from either side on the gun debate? Not with the ‘You’ll-only-pry-this-weapon-out-of-my-cold-dead-hands’ mentality nor with the ‘Make-all-guns-illegal' argument either.

Why?

Why does Aurora happen?

What does it say about us as a culture, that this kind of thing happens here? That it happens here more than it happens any other place in the world?

We’re not at war at home. We’re not in a place where suicide bombings happen, and we’re not currently engaged in a religious or territorial war within our own borders.

Why does it happen here?

Why does it happen? Because evil exists. It cannot be legislated away, it can't be wished away, it can't be banned away. Evil people will find a way to commit evil. It's been happening since man stood up on two legs and threw rocks at another man.

Nobody thinks that maybe today you have that heart attack or stroke
Maybe today you fall and break your neck
Maybe today you are killed in a car accident
Maybe today you are killed crossing the street
Maybe today you are killed in a fire

Maybe today you die from any number of different reasons.

There were 2.4 million deaths in 2009. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm/

...some of the people recognize those issues and make political promises to change that reality or one that sounds related for a target group(s).

Sociopaths, psychopaths, paranoid schizophrenics, victims of narcissistic and borderline personality disorders, etc.

Evil is not the opposite of goodness, or of altruism. It's just a convenient explanation for deeply disturbed people from a time when the world lived in fear of spirits.

...to cover the class of people that you list. And if saves a lot of typing. I will continue to use the word "evil", even if I don't believe the person to be possessed by a devil.

Christian-Newsom Murder

There is evil and it walks among us. To deny it, to ignore it, or to blame it on some neurological condition or some mental health disorder leaves you unprepared to face the reality of evil.

He said there are two wolves that live inside all of us. One is evil and is violence, hate, jealousy and greed.

There is another one is good and is love, kindness, understanding and peace.

The boy ask, which one wins.

The old man said, the one you feed.
